Artist demonstration: santero Luis Barela | Open House | open hours for Aún Aquí exhibition - September

Couse-Sharp Historic Site invites you to join us for our First Saturday Open House. In this edition, from 2-4 pm we host a talk and demonstration by santero Luis Barela, one of the local artists featured in the exhibition Aún Aquí: Spanish Colonial Contemporary. This exhibition will be open 3-5 p.m. in the Luna Family Chapel at the historic site, concurrent with the open house.

From 3-5 p.m., you can tour the historic homes and studios of E. I. Couse and J. H. Sharp, two of the founders of the Taos Society of Artists, and enjoy a delightful stroll through Virginia Couse’s vintage garden. Docents will be present in every room providing in-depth knowledge of the E. I. Couse home and studio, the Kibbey Couse laboratory and machine shop, the Couse Mobile Machine Shop, and the exhibition J. H. Sharp: The Life and Work of an American Legend in the 1915 Sharp Studio.

The exhibition Reflections: Taos Pueblo and the Photography of E. I. Couse in The Lunder Research Center adjacent to the historic site will be open 1-5 p.m. if you'd like to come early to see it before the demonstration and open house.

These events are open to the public with free admission; donations encouraged. Free parking available a half block east in the municipal lot on Kit Carson Road; parking for those with disabled permits available on site.

Please note: Because of the site’s nature as a place of historic preservation, most buildings and grounds are not ADA accessible, but The Lunder Research Center is accessible.
